Sad Passing of Brittany Murphy

Brittany Murphy died. What a coincidence I happen to be in middle of a movie with her as the star actress when I found out about her death. The one I was watching is "Deadline". Before that I have watched her in "Ramen Girl" (2008). She did other movies ofcourse.

She recently was reported to have been fired by her agent and manager from upcoming film. I see a possible link between the 2 events. Supposedly she had a drug habit. I do not know for sure but if that's the case, fact that she got fired from the upcoming film by her agent could have caused depression which she may have tried to cope with by usage of substances which may have lead to the problem in the heart that caused her death.

It's just my personal speculation. But I have linked source articles below which discusses the death of Brittany Murphy.

Left is ad cover of movie "Ramen Girl" which I enjoyed. She was probably more well known for, playing role of Eminem's gf in "8 mile". Which I did not enjoy.

She was also in "Clueless" Maybe we are all just clueless what we do to ourselves. I don't blame the media for her death but I do blame it for not making anything easier for her by blasting the news about her being fired from a movie. When things are good, media profits, when things are bad, media profits, when you die, media profits.

Actress Brittany Murphy has died, according to the Los Angeles coroner's office.
The 32-year-old actress, who starred in "Clueless" and with Eminem in "8 Mile," was declared dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to Selena Barrows, an investigator with the coroner's office.
"We have a preliminary death report of someone with the name of Brittany Murphy," Barrows told TheWrap. The report came from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The news was first reported by TMZ.com.
TMZ said multiple sources reported that the actress had gone into cardiac arrest and could not be revived on Sunday morning.

Barrows said cardiac arrest could mean any number of things, and was not an indication of the cause of death.
However, Murphy's suspected excessive use of drugs had been the subject of widespread speculation, and was even the subject of a parody sketch on a recent "Saturday Night Live" Weekend Update.
The Los Angeles City Fire Department said a 911 call was made at 8 a.m. from the Los Angeles home of Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Born in Atlanta, Murphy started acting in regional theater at age 9; by age 13, she had signed with a manager and began appearing in television commercials. Her first roles were on TV series such as "Murphy Brown" and "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," which led to her breakthrough film, 1995's "Clueless."
She had five movies currently in production, including "Poor Things," with Rosario Dawson; "Shrinking Charlotte," with Kathleen Turner; and Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables," with Stallone, Jet Li and Jason Statham.

This proves things need to be a bit more strict when it comes to driving laws. I personally think there's a good reason why she kept failing and this time she passed only by chance. A simple random chance that she just happened to make the right mistakes on the test. I think at least here in US, the rule should be that if you fail written test 10 times then you clearly are danger to others on the road and should not be allowed to take anymore written test and be banned from driving a car.

Windows 7 Tip Of The Day - WinKey+Tab

One thing Windows (er... Microsoft I should say) does well is steal ideas. Here's a visual technology that has been around in other platform(s). One thing Microsoft is finally FINALLY doing right is not just making visuals pretty but actually making those purrrty visuals a functionally useful thing.

Here's one.

When you have multiple windows you used to have to Hold down Alt and press Tab and go through each window if you wanted to see the window you were looking for (if you had multiple of the same program for example)

Now to make that visual appear so you can easily see all windows open at once and easily scroll to the one you want, Use the Windows Key+ Tab.

Step1: Down below on your keyboard right next to "Alt" is a key that looks like windows logo. Hold that down and then tap press "Tab" key right next to Q and let go of Q after you tapped it but do NOT let go of the windows Key. Keep holding that one down.

Step2: While you are still holding down that windows key, if you press Tab again then the windows switch in position forward. If you press Shift+Tab instead then windows shift backward.

OR instead of tab, you can scroll the mouse wheel. It's much faster.

Step3: When the window you want is at the top most position and you can see all its contents, you can let go of the windows key OR mouse the pointer over the window you want to switch to and click it. (mouse method works even if the window you want is not at the top)

V is NOT for Vandetta and yes they are making a remake of old TV show V. Also, if you were NOT born before 1980 then trust me, you will not remember V. It was on TV back in 1983 and even if you were out suckling on mommy at beginning of 1980 you would be too young to remember.

Hollywood has the biggest ego. When europeans make excellent drama movies, what does Hollywood do? Make a remake cause original just wasn't good enough. When japanese or philipines make some great horror flick, what does Hollywood do? Make a remake cause original just wasn't good enough. And what does Hollywood do when they run out of ideas for new TV shows? Make a remake of old ones cause old ones just wasn't good enough. I loved old TV shows and they were great. Alot better than TV shows are now. In my opinion honoring the amazing shows and movies of the past isn't by remaking them. Remaking is like a slap in the face to the original saying "You weren't good enough." Imagine saying that to your wife. "I'm gonna get one of my other ribs taken out and made into a woman because you just aren't good enough."

So the new exploitation of one of the greats of the past is V. Remake on the old V.

I personally prefer the original. I have watched the short clips, seen the space ships, the characters, the actors chosen to play the role. I am very disappointed.

Ok, first off the space ship was the typical round and at least it made sense back then. Now they changed it to something that looks like some fat person's butt cushion that's been sat on and has permanent shaping of it.

Now the characters:

The Villain. - Original villain played by Jane Badler is now being played by Morena Baccarin. They should have chosen Elizabeth Mitchell to play that role who instead is playing a different role. Jane Badler played well with the female villain role because she could carry the role as a tough alien who could kick your butt if you looked at her funny.

Hollywood as it always does opted for beauty and no toughness. Sex sells and hollywood is dishing it out like condomn at HIV centers. Actually I don't think Morena Baccarin is pretty, I'm just saying hollywood thinks she is and that's the reason they went for her.

Clearly Elizabeth Mitchell would have been better match for the role because just looking at this photo you can tell she could carry sexy and "kick yer girly butt" at the same time.

I KNOW the story is, none of the aliens are anything but sexy because they are trying to fool humans into practically worshipping them and be blinded into full trust. But still...

If I'm gonna get butt kicked I want to at least have an excuse why I got mine kicked by a woman. She was one tough sexy lady. No doubt about it and I liked it.

The Hero. - Played by Marc Singer.

He looked like he could fight. Not only did you have to know how to act back in those days, you also had to be able to look the part.

He played the freakin Beast Master. He talked to animals man. That's some serious skill right there.

Ok he didn't really talk to animals but he played his parts well.

But now instead we got guys like this who just er... wears fancy suits.

Nice suit bud. Where did you get it? Wardrobe? Btw, Hollywood also tells you you are too fat, not good very good looking and your life isn't interesting if you don't own mansions, and normal thing to do is fall in love and get married within 2 days of having met. So there you go. Also, hiring Chinese actors to play Korean or Japanese roles is ok cause they all look alike according to Hollywood.

First Rain Of The Season - And a bit of history lesson

Today it rained in California. I don't know about everywhere else but here in Western part of Los Angeles, it had a very light drizzle or mist yesterday and most may not have noticed but I still consider that the first rain of the season. Today it actually rained like it was supposed to. And I hope people are driving carefully but this being LA I know there are going to be douchebags causing accidents cause they just wanna get home faster so they can watch their large flat screen TV.

In Korea, way back before there was seperation of northern and southern part of Korea into what we know as North Korea (communism), South Korea (republic), there was one Korea, and back in 1441, there was an invention that allowed measuring of rain. It measured how much rain had fallen in very simple way.

This invention called Cheugugi is simply a container that had set on stone and measuring stick was used to tell how much rain it had collected. Just like we currently tell how much feet of snow had fallen because snow's height can be measured, so can height of rain because of this invention.

And no this is NOT the Rain I'm talking about.

Obama's Nobel Peace Prize Too Early

This article linked above agrees with me that Nobel Peace Prize is not what Obama needs right now. What comes to my mind is less talk more action and I'm sure he has done actions but it's still too early to tell wether his actions truly will be beneficial and if it truly is for peace or merely to get reelected. Giving someone peace prize simply because he shows up on TV a whole lot making speeches about peace does not seem valid in my opinion. Let's focus on the issues he said. Then's focus on the issue and leave the prize until he has proven himself not just end result but his intention and his dedication for peace. If someone wins a Nobel Peace prize I expected it to go to someone who worked on bringing harmony and peace to domestic and international. His focus has been financial and growth of our economy. I want economy to grow but if that's what he's been accomplishing how does that relate to peace? More money means more peace? Then how come rich people still commit suicides? Well that's a bit going off but you get my point.

can't wait!

I loved 8.10, but wasn't quite happy with display portion of 9.04. It kept displaying funky invert boxes when I was dragging icons. Hopefully with 9.10 that's all fixed and we can all sleep soundly. I don't like to install beta OS at least not in full install. I would do it in virtual machine to try it out but for full install I would wait for final release. Thankfully it's only days away. It's scheduled to be released this month of October.

I really should have invented this myself. You look through the peepholes in your door to see who's at your door. But his device makes it alot simpler. You just press a button and person outside shows up on the device's screen.

Windows 7 CHKDSK Memory Leak

Yes, as always there IS a problem with windows. As sure as Kanye West is a douche.

Unfortunately this is one of those "oh crap, this isn't good, this is serious" type of problem.

What you are seeing on the left is memory usage going up and up and up as the chkdsk is being used. When I went to command prompt and ran the program chkdsk on one of my NTFS formatted drives, memory usage (blue line) gradually went up and fairly quickly until it reached maximum available and used up all my available RAM. Also as you can see an alert shows up giving me choice to close the program. And as soon as I close the program the blue line (memory usage) drops significantly back to where it started.

When a program uses up significant amount of memory like this and often not release when program closes is called memory leak. It's basically windows having the shitz. And it hurts cause last night's dinner had too much Kimchi or maybe Jalapenos. *OW it burns it burns~~~~*

This isn't an app just for IT people. This is a very handy and important program that is part of Microsoft Windows and is vital to health of your drive data. when drives get corrupted, you need to fix it. How? with Chkdsk. But now the prob is the Chkdsk. If you can't run Chkdsk, then you can't do a repair.

References: According to info in this page http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/a3cd974b-4758-44bb-b1c0-289ef813b2e6 the prob is for NTFS formatted drives. But most drives these days will be formatted NTFS.

Why would I be talking about Latisse (women's beauty product that grows lashes)?

First for people who do not know what it is, let me explain. It initially was a glaucoma medication that was found to cause growth of eye lashes and so it started being sold as a eye lash growth product which some people claim it can also grow hair on your head. Sounds pretty darn good right? Everything sounds good at first. Then you wish you didn't join the taliban. *cough* uh.. I mean.

Both men and women persue better looks and more power to impress. Why? Whom? I can partially understand because the society believe in and judge people based on physical appearance and that can cause someone to have better success than others. It is a fact, but not one I would want to promote. No, I am not saying I'm ugly. I wouldn't want to live without success. I would want to be as successful as I always hoped. I would want to pursue that dream. And so I can understand why people would want to look good at workplace. I can also see that it gives people self confidence. And it makes them more attractive for approval by others. But why is THAT so important? Whatever happened to self belief and not caring what others think? Yes my blog is funny and interesting damn it.

Latisse has side effects just like any other drug. Yes it's a drug to help grow lashes, but there are down sides whcih includes, permanent eye color change, and eye lid pigment change. It doesn't sound all that bad really compared to so many drugs out there but those still are side effects. Is making yourself look better for OTHERS so important that you are willing to risk side effects that includes unwanted permanent changes to your skin? Some may try to say "oh it's not to impress others, it's for me"... really? Who really gets to see the make up on your face? Who really gets to see the longer eye lashes you have? Unless you are walking around with a mirror in your hand at all times and staring back at yourself and stumbling over other people, you are NOT doing it for yourself and you ARE trying to impress OTHERS who see your face.

Ladies, if you love yourself, shouldn't you love yourself at all times, longer eye lashes or not? And if what's important is your self belief and confidence then the good practice will be walking out to the sunlight without any makeup on and letting your natural beauty shine. From your inner and outer.

Annual Event at Venice, California - Last Sunday of September

So... I was at Venice Beach on Sunday and in Venice they had an annal festival going on. I walked through the whole thing and I honestly believe it had to be 2 mile stretch. It just kept going and going. It had lots of fun things like live music, food, interesting people and average people alike enjoying themselves, rides and activities, and vendors marketing their stuff. In case you are wondering why every pic looks like it's got heavenly glow,... I set the lighting on wrong setting by accident.

So Totyota was parked and I honestly have no idea what this really was all about. I just passed on by. Didn't see anyone being actively involved with it. It was just there looking all white and red.

This guy you can see is rolling around in some what looks like homemade roller blades, and he was playing electric guitar with portable speaker attached to him. You'll find people like this and other unique characters in Venice beach and Santa Monica beach.

And for more professional musical performances, they have live bands at all through out the day.

As soon as I saw this sign I knew it was a sign (pun intended) for me to try a hand dipped deep fried twinky. How can you not? This is once in a lifetime opportunity. I don't know any store that sells this stuff. What's my take on it after the taste test? I be lovin' it. It wasn't anything like cheap twinkies you get at local grocery stores. This one was more bready and more filling. Very tasty and I would definitely try this again at the risk of clogging up my artery. I had mine with powder suger and strawberries.

They had some other deep fried stuff as well. The line for this one place was the biggest out of the whole 2 mile stretch of booths. I never seen so many people lined up for junk food that's made to kill you slowly. And yet I still got in line for my bit of suicide.

Don't you just hate it when you wanna take a pic of some fat dude cooking and some hot sexy lady in red dress with nice boobs get in the way? Geez lady I get you are hot, I'll jerk off to you later, but please get out of the way so I can take a pic of the fat chef cooking Hawaiian food.

There you go. Thank you lady in red. :)

And finally the rock climbing for kids. Fun stuff. I saw one kid doing it like a pro. Awesome.

Movie Review - The Surrogates

Ok, to be honest, I didn't realize the movie was based on a graphic novel or comic. I should have figured Hollywood has lost its touch of originality long time ago and everything out now is simply a remake of one format or another or its predecessor.

This movie stars with one of my fav action star Bruce Willis. Why is he so awesome? Die Hard 1. Any questions? This movie is very sci-fi and has good story and action. I don't feel it was as well delivered as it could have been but I think in its limited time frame it did ok.

First thing that comes to mind is "I - Robot". Both "I Robot" and "The Surrogates have very futuristic technology and we humans have given up our control to the mechanical beings. In both movies enemy is not the robots. It is us. Both movies deal some form of loss for the main characters and yes that IS a Hollywood cliche.

What I think this movie failed on is the sappy part where detective Tom Greer played by Bruce Willis having to deal with loss of his only son. For at least once I would like to see a decent action movie about simply saving the world for its good people not just trying to find redemption for the loss person endured. It was sappy story that wasn't well woven and almost felt like it didn't belong there at all. It really had nothing to do with his work or his drive to pursue the justice he was after.

Plus point however goes with very good and bountiful action sequences with Bruce chasing after bad guys using the surrogates that obviously have superior strength to normal human body. It was thrilling, cool to watch and just down right perfect for me. They also didn't over-do the robot makeup or human figures but kept the differences light so we don't lose connection with the characters in the story and know that could easily be ourselves.

So my final note, I would give it 3 stars out of 5. Good visual and action, but sappy story that was merely an excess, and story behind some characters not well told if at all.

Windows 7 - User Folders enhanced

One thing I love about Linux is the user folders such as Pictures, Videos, Documents all being one click away. With Vista Microsoft finally has figured it out. Windows 7 is even better. What I love about Windows 7's favorites folders feature is it allows you to click an icon and go straight to your documents, pictures or video folders and it doesn't just show you one folder. You can link up multiple folders to each icon. So if you click on your "Videos" icon for example, you can see your default videos folder and any other video folders that you have including ones you have in your usb drives. Screenshot below.

The example shows my "Videos" icon linking to 2 folders. One under my "Users" folder in C: and another on an external.

Multiboot USB Instruction - Part2

Ok, in this part 2 I am going to give more detailed instruction for each type of app and how to install them when they need to be multiboot and not fight over boot sector and such.

First some details about different types of bootable apps.

Both Ubuntu and Fedora (linux) have easy to use accessories to let you create a USB bootable. Except for syslinux folder their folder names for their files are not the same so it's very easy installing both of them on one single drive.

Acronis Backup & Recovery is backup software that can be boot from usb and uses Linux kernel for booting and has usb boot creation wizard also. It requires a bootsector data just like Ubuntu and Fedora but will not share syslinux and will require a bootsector file.

Memtest (comes with Ubuntu and also can be downloaded, I personally use Memtest+). This one is pretty simple. It's a single file with no need for a bootsector. You just copy and create a menu entry for it.

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor. This one comes in an iso. If you want to install bootable CD ISO on USB, often you can just copy files from the iso and this has its own kernels and data to run. You have to copy the whole folder. Does not need its own bootsector.

Order of things to install:
Start with apps that require its own bootsector and then the linux distros, then then everything else. All of the Linux distros can share a single boot sector and syslinux.

For each step of prepping individual apps we'll need a fat32 formatted empty usb drive. You can just use one and copy the files off to a folder on your desktop and format the usb for next each step.

Step1:
First for this tutorial let's start with Acronis. This assumes you already have a working Acronis Backup & Recovery or Acronis True Image installed. Insert an empty usb. Go through the emergency boot disk creation process and choose to install on USB and point to your flash drive. What the utility does is saves a set of files to your usb and makes changes to the bootsector of your flash drive. This program needs bootsector data to run so we are going to do more than just copy files off of it. Save all the generated files to a folder on your desktop by themselves. Let's call it "Acronis boot files".

Next we need to save that boot sector data. Download HDHacker.

Under "Drive to operate" select "Logical Drive" and select the drive letter of your flash drive where you installed Acronis. Under "Select sector" choose "First sector". Click "Read sector from Disk" and then click "Save sector to file" and give it a name such as "acronis.bss". file extension MUST be bss. This lets syslinux know it's a bootsector file and will allow daisychain booting. Save that file in the same location where you copied your acronis files in a folder on your desktop ex: "Acronis boot files"

Step2:
Let's install Ubuntu. Just do regular quickformat of the flash drive as fat32. Boot to Ubuntu CD or your Ubuntu installation. Run your partition editor application under "Administration". Make sure that the Boot Flag is set for fat32 partition of your usb drive.

Then run "Create USB startup disk" wizard. If you want (and I assume you do) the persistent image then make sure you set "Stored in reserved space" and set the size you want. This will create a persistent file for you where all changes get saved when you are working under Ubuntu and will prevent you from having to create a 2nd partition. Splitting a flash drive to have 2 partition (2nd being the casper-rw) is old, silly way of doing it. After you have done this you do NOT need to format the flash drive again. However I do prefer Ubuntu syslinux menu's gui over Fedora's and if you do also then copy just the syslinux folder to your desktop after you rebooted to windows restore back after we install Fedora.

Step3:
Install Fedora. Again you will probably want to have some sort of persistent file to save changes for this one also. Download "Fedora live-usb creator"

Step4:
Combine the programs. You should now have a usb with both Fedora and Ubuntu. Let's go ahead and copy over Acronis files that you backedup to your desktop. Make sure you include the .bss file. Copy any other programs and if they require bootsector data make sure you copy over their .bss file as well. BartPE will be an example. Windows environment can't boot from a Linux bootsector and since we can't have more than one boot sector on a single drive, that's why we use HDHacker to create a .bss file and save it to the flash drive. Download Offline NT Password & Registry Editor. Get the one that's listed as CD image. Extract the iso from the zip file. Then extract files from the iso to the flash drive EXCLUDING the syslinux.cfg file. This app comes with its own syslinux and you do not need it and we'll be using syslinux from ubuntu anyway. However you do need to refer to it for the menu entry in later step. Dos based apps will require you have memdisk file. So copy that to root of your flash drive. Apps like Memtest+ is a single file that can be installed just by simply copying it to your drive.

Step5:
Edit the syslinux menu. In your usb, in the syslinux folder, if you don't see a syslinux.cfg file but see isolinux.cfg then rename the isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg. If you choose you can delete the isolinux.bin. Back in Ubuntu 7 days menu entries were in syslinux.cfg. But as of 8.04 and 8.10 it links to a file called text.cfg. That's the file that has all the menu entries shown when you boot.

Ok, now onto actually editing the menu file. Below is example of what you will see.

kernel always pointing to the memdisk and append initrd actually being the floppy image.

Both Acronis and BartPE will have .bss file.

But do notice the slight difference in the menu entries. on both entries append is not important and you can just put (-) at the end of that line. BartPE's menu instead of "kernel" has "bss" to allow syslinux know that it's a bootchain. It will load the 512 byte .bss and that bss file will load the actual program because it's dos based. Acronis instead of bss will say kernel because acronis boot utility is linux based.

Final Note: If you installed fedora first and then installed ubuntu or somehow your bootsector got corrupted, you can simply fix your bootsector of your flash drive by going to command prompt, go into the folder called tools located in the "Fedora live-usb creator"'s folder. It will have syslinux.exe. Simply type the command syslinux -sf d: (if your usb drive is d drive).

Sometimes if you are working with files on your usb drive under windows and you pull out the drive too soon from usb port while some data are still being written, windows will alert you next time you insert the drive back in and ask if you want to run a check on the drive. If you run the check more often than not instead of fixing it will corrupt the bootsector. Then you just run the syslinux -sf d: (usb drive letter) to fix.

Multiboot USB Instruction - Part1

Ok, I know this was a whole year overdue but here it is.

This instruction works with Ubuntu 8.10.

This is instruction that may be useful to you if you are looking to boot more than just Ubuntu or Fedora or other flavor of Linux from your Flash drive (aka usb drive, keydrive, thumbdrive). Especially if you are an IT personal like myself you will want to have all your neat useful tools on hand and want to be able to boot to them from a single menu.

First you need a good decent size usb drive. Try going for at least a 4Gig. These days you can get a 4Gig at such a low price.

Ok, next you need software.

You do NOT need HP format utility. That's a real ugly and old way of doing it.
You can do this either in windows or linux.
You CAN run other bootable apps such as memtest, partition magic, acronis true image.
Does NOT need to be multi-partitioned usb. No need for swap partition or casper-rw labeled partition.

Step1:
Make your usb bootable.

Download Syslinux from
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/

After you download, extract to a folder. Plugin your usb drive.
run the command
syslinux -sf [device]

ex: if linux and your usb device is listed as /dev/sdb1
syslinux -sf /dev/sdb1

if windows and your usb drive letter is d:
syslinux -sf d:

Note: if after following all steps usb still does not boot, even with bios set properly check to make sure that fat32 partition of your usb drive's BOOT Flag is set.

Step 2:
Copy files.

Most of the apps you want to use may be pretty easy to install. You just have to copy the files from ISOs, CDs, or other USBs to the target USB. If 2 programs have same folder names, then rename one of the folders. Often they don't have a problem if you rename the folder as long as syslinux is pointing to the correct location in the menu.

You will NOT need a Linux OS if you just want to create a usb drive with bootable diagnostic or other apps only. However, you WILL still need the syslinux folder from at least ubuntu or fedora linux because that will be our menu. Go into the syslinux folder and rename the isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg.

Step 3:
Edit your menu.

Below is my text.cfg file inside the syslinux folder which you can edit to add your own list of menu entries.

You will notice most of the entries will have

for Linux based apps, you kernel is the target app
append is options.

for Dos based apps, kernel needs to point to a file called memtest which allows dos files to run and append points to the dos program you want to run.

for some of the other apps such as Acronis recovery software and some others it will be different. (I'll explain this one further.)

Step 4
Making acronis and other apps that do not use 'memdisk' and needs to have its own boot kernel bootable.

Acronis has its own usb bootable creator just like ubuntu. Which means it creates its own boot info in the bootsector of the disk. You obviously can't have 2 apps fighting over one boot sector.

So the solution is this. Download HDHacker from http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/
I know the site looks like it hasn't been maintained in a decade. But the app is great, still works, even on Vista 64. After you download and launch the app, it will list available drive letters under "Logical drives" dropdown. Under "select sector", choose "First sector". Then under "Read commands" click "Read sector from disk". Then under "Write commands" click "Save sector to file" and name it anything you want within 8 character filename with bss file extesion. It MUST end with .bss because that will let syslinux know it's a 512 byte boot sector file. Copy that file to your usb and now you can run 2 different apps each having its own bootsector.   In the menu entry just make sure you add an item that looks like this.

Part 2 of this tutorial will have info on how to boot to Ubuntu with persistent file. In case you can't wait for it, remember to have the persistent file created and ready before you do "syslinux" command. If you run ubuntu's usb boot creator it will kill the pre-existing boot sector data.

My Rant About Government's Bailout Plan

So here's my rant.

Let's start by saying I hate the idea that we even need this bailout and I also hate that government seems to love to jump in and help the money hungry corporations when they are slow at helping individuals who are struggling. We entrust our retirement, our lives and government spends more money and time doing the talk than doing the walk when it comes to the needs of the average Joes & Janes (in this part of the country, many are Joses and Marias)

Tell me something. Does Uncle sam take 1/3 of your hard earned money too? When does he ever say "oh you are working so hard, I'll send one of the guys from IRS to help you and lighten up your load?" or "You must be stressed out, let me give you a handjob"? Nice uncles give you money when he pats your butt. Uncle Sam on the other hand rapes you and then tells you "go make me some more money". And he doesn't even use lube. *Ouch* Sure he does help some. But the ones he often help are the lazy bums who sit on their butts suckling Uncle Sam's hairy nipples while the rest of us hard workers break our backs just to see 1/3 of our pay goto taxes. And from what we have left we pay sales tax, service tax, tax on tax, and tax for just being so darn gullible.

At least when you get groped by a Catholic Priest, you get to wear cool alter boy uniform. When you get groped by Michael Jackson, you get a pay off. You get groped by Uncle Sam, all you end up with is a bad rash and pocket with lint and all your money gone. I'm saying if we are gonna get molested in our wallets at least send us a flower to say "thank you for your money".

Please uncle Sam, don't rape me. I'm already starting to walk funny from being so poor.

2nd, Let's talk about why we even need the bail out in the first place and who's profiting. Financial institutions are the greediest. Money is root of evil and they have the most amount of evil. Logic works, am I right? It is true that alot of people who took loans to buy house or etc probably took out a loan with interest rates and such that they could in no way afford because they saw something shiny and they just reached out to grab it. But is it their fault? Partially yes.

I believe alot of fault lies on those institutions that made it hard for middle class people to pay off the debt. If I lend you $ knowing you may not be able to pay it back and I lend you the $ anyway, who is the idiot here? and then I cry about it waiting for Uncle Sam to bail me out. Because he is better uncle to some than others.

"Congratulations on scamming stupid american people, here' let me help you stay in business so you can keep scamming dumb people"

Third, let's take a look at our selves. How often do we buy products made in USA? How much of the money are we giving up to foreign nations? Pretty soon parents will get to hold their babies at hospitals and there will be a big sticker on the baby's butt that reads "Property of China" we are selling our souls is all I am saying. With all the money we owe as a nation if we had to pay that all back today, what would we have to sell to be able to pay all that off? Left kidney? First born? Wife's uterus?

Let's buy cheap stuff made in China so we can save $0.50 which we'll end up losing anyway because of inflation partially caused by our need to buy foreign goods in the first place which we bought in order to save $0.50 which we just lost. Not to mention lack of jobs. We keep shoving tax money into welfare system which we need because so many people lost their jobs because we keep buying into idea we can save money if we buy cheap foreign made goods which these days aren't all that cheap anyway.

Can you hear it? The sounds of laughter from the people of China. "Five dolla, you pay now, you stupid americans". We just grabbed our ankles and they stuck a fortune cookie up our butts and it says "We just stole your retirement. May you have chow-fun. We will."

nLite - not your average clean up program

One of the best softwares I have used so far for those little clean jobs to make your xp faster.
This isn't a system cleaner like those other softwares that get rid of your junk files or bad registry entries.

Microsoft XP Professional Install CD is about 600meg. It includes alot of services and junk that most of you won't ever need and some that you will. The more processes and components means more cpu usage and more memory usage. By using nlite you can eliminate those uneeded components and embed sp3 into your xp install CD. And when you boot to that CD and install ms windows xp on your computer it will be faster and less of a resource hog than before.

I have customized mine and I was able to get it down to 144Meg iso. After installing cpu process stayed very low and memory usage usually stayed below 100meg (out of 3Gig total available).

Try it out yourself. You could even try installing inide a virtual machine to see the result of its resource usage. (Vmware - not free unless you get player which is useless if you want to try installing xp) or you can try (QEMUmanager - comes with QEMU and is free solution to being able to create your own virtual machines with Microsoft Windows XP)

Multi-boot (or Dual boot) Linux, WinPE, DOS utilities, etc

I will be posting very soon instructions on how to create dual boot usb installation.

Many of the instructions I found on internet were old, incorrect, or just didn't have enough information for what I wanted to accomplish.

So I have gone through many trials and failures and some successes and so I am gathering all the know how I figured out and collected and putting it in easy to understand steps and will explain why they work or do not work.

Programs I have used that helped in some way or another:
winimage, ultraiso, hdhacker, volumeid (sysinternals), fedora's usb creator, editpad

OSes or Utilities I have installed on my 8Gig flash drive (aka. usb drive, keychain drive, pendrive):
Ubuntu 8.04 - Linux (persistent does not work - not my fault, Ubuntu hasn't fixed it)
Fedora 9 - Linux (great Linux distro that loads much faster than Ubuntu from usb)
Slax - Linux (very small but less ugly and more useful than DSL [damn small linux] and comes with the hawkpe)
hawkpe (a distro of custom built winpe - don't remember who built it, I used version 39)
Acronis True Image Echo with Universal Restore (awesome boot utility to backup or restore full harddrive image or even individual files, one heck of a program to use to backup. I highly recommend this one for your regular backup needs very very highly.)
PowerQuest Partition Magic (copied it from hawkpe iso same as hard drive tester apps listed below)
IBM/Hitachi diagnostic
SeaTools for Seagate drives
WesternDigital diagnostic
Kitchen Sink
QEMU (as a portable app to run under windows to run ubuntu 7.10, even under qemu Ubuntu 8.04's persistent does not work.)
Memtest+ (tests your RAM - if you ever had experience where you bought a brand new computer but right out of the box you started getting reboots or bluescreen, you might want to test your RAM)

All these are launched from 1 single menu. I use syslinux. I do NOT use Grub4Dos (used it before but didn't like having to launch a menu to run dos or windows apps when I could actually do it from syslinux that way I am not running a menu just to run a menu)
